Madi Diaz & Boys Like Girls

I decided to start a Album Review Blog...A) to just help me with writing. B) To help me develop a more critical ear to music C) To listen to more albums all the way through.

I know the first few reviews will be rough but hopefully I will get better!

Madi Diaz "Ten Gun Salute" (December 5, 2008)
My first interaction with Madi Diaz's music was at a Free Concert in Nashville. Actually she was singing harmony for an artist of which I have no recollection of. My first thought was, "They need to get a new girl to harmonize" Then that same girl walked on-stage and blew me away. Ten Gun Salute is a refreshing and sweet collection of seven songs. Full of friendly beats, simple lyrics, and a fresh pure voice. Sometimes most refreshing is to hear an album that captures an artists genuine voice. No song is overproduced, and no effects are put on Madi's vocals. I would say this is a true Nashville EP. It's an independent EP that showcase's a rising star in a way that any label would be stupid to pass up.
Ten Gun Salute leaves "Skin and Bone"(her debut EP) in the dust. Madi focuses less on pop influenced folk songs and simply owns a unique sound. "Lets Go", "Nothing At All", "Heavy Heart" & "Love You Now" kick off with such ease and flow so effortlessly together that by the time "Just Be Quiet" is on im ready to press repeat.
Purchase: The Album, Don't miss out on any song on this EP at $6.93 on itunes it is well worth it.

Boys Like Girls "Love Drunk" (September 8, 2009)
When I thought of Boys Like Girls I think "The Great Escape" "Thunder" "Hero/Heroine", these songs were huge in 07. These songs were anthems for the summer almost. I was excited about the "Love Drunk" release. When "Love Drunk" the single came out I was excited for what was to come. Boys Like Girls had produced another radio hit single. No question we knew they could. Then I started listening to the album. I have to preface this with my utter disappointment of Cobra Starships "Hot Mess". Just a month earlier I had the Cobra Starship album pre-ordered and ready to listen as soon as midnight came around. I found the online stream earlier and was disappointed at how Pop mainstream radio they had taken their album. Similar response to "Love Drunk". What happened, my main question was are you a Disney band now? Why is Taylor Swift playing on your record? Seriously "Two is Better Than One" must be the new single for High School Musical 4. I listened to the entire album twice and the only song that made any impression was "Love Drunk" which I had purchased earlier and like i began to boycott "Good Girls Go Bad" by Cobra Starship once I heard "Hot Mess" I now boycott "Love Drunk" after hearing the full album.
Purchase: Nothing, save your money for the next Band of the Summer.
