La Roux ...French For "Red Haired One"

Lets talk for a minute about my newest Euro-Pop sensation. La Roux, you may have downloaded her free single on itunes several months ago. "Bulletproof." La Roux, a duo that has shared the stage with Lily Allen previous to their U.S invasion started out as a more acoustic act. They scrapped the band "Automan" and changed directions taking their music towards the outer limits with a progressive self-titled electro-pop album.

I give you La Roux. A band to watch out for in 2010. This album is full of infectiously quirky songs. "Bulletproof" was my first introduction to La Roux. I downloaded the Free song on iTunes several months ago. It wasn't until recently that I realized what an impression this song had made in my head. Just recently I ran across the song again and was like WHY is this not added to my "Pump Up the Volume" playlist, of which pump me up to workout. This resurgence of the song in my head drove me to sampling the entire album. The album took my love of electronica to new levels. It is proof that their is some good to come from Auto-Tune. The songs are cleverly developed with retro-electronic-keyboard backgrounds. Its a throwback to the 80's and a flash forward to 2025. She has her hard hearted songs, Singer Elly Jackson learns from her mistakes and becomes "Bulletproof", she lays down the law in "Im not Your Toy." She turns on some vulnerability and jealousy in "Cover My Eyes." Something about these euro-invasions has given us brought us many "less then perfect vocals." Her vocals are sometimes over the top, if you find yourself having trouble getting into the sound start with "As If By Magic" a song that seems to fit Jacksons voice to perfection.

I would love to hear French versions of her songs, I think this duo is going to have a bigger impression on the American people in 2010. Just look at that Red Hair, you can't tell me that one hit and this girl will be eaten up!!!

Sorry no free download here but if you look back a few weeks or even from your summer free downloads you may find her already in your itunes. "Bulletproof" was given away on itunes. And "In for the Kill" was given away at the beginning of the summer by Nylon/iTunes in a playlist.

I welcome La Roux with open arms to America and hope she this wonderful live, looking forward to a big tour with her.
